A Cozy Afternoon | Pottery, Pastries and Matcha

I am working on several blog posts but they are taking quite sometime. Because of this, I was not able to publish a blog post this past Monday but I don’t want the week to pass by without me posting, so here is a “spend the afternoon with me” type of post.

3:00 pm

I left work a bit early and drove to the city to one of my favorite cafes. It is all vegan and gluten free and absolutely delicious. I’m not vegan anymore but I still avoid certain dairy products and i have an egg intolerance so I greatly appreciate this place. I wish there were more places like this in more cities around the world.

3:50 pm

I got to the bakery pretty close to closing time. It shouldn’t have taken so long to drive there but these things (like traffic or being too into the music you’re listening to that you take the wrong exit) happen sometimes. C’est la vie.

Usually, I go for savory goods, but this time I ordered 3 of the same thing: Three Shortbread Almond Jams. I appreciate this treat the most because it isn’t too sweet.

The bakery has a bookshelf displaying several cookbooks. I’d like to test out the recipes and see if I can learn how to make gluten free and vegan baked goods. Stayed tuned :)

4:00 pm

I then walked to a pottery store close to the bakery. A super light rain - noncommittal drops that could not get anyone wet - started while I walked. It was like the clouds didn’t come to truly rain but to offer a nice reprieve from the summer sun. On the walk, I saw other local shops I want to explore.

The pottery store itself was so lovely. The woman that was working there greeted me then sat in the back with a book. There was no music playing over speakers. It was quiet and I love silence. It is one of my very favorite things in the world. Most stores you enter have something playing, this one had nary a sound. It was relaxing.

I explored the shop slowly. Simply enjoying the experience of being there. Almost like I was walking through an art gallery.

I want to start creating “What I eat in a day” videos, so I kept this in mind as I walked around, searching for pieces that are beautiful and could compliment the video aesthetic I am envisioning.

4:30 pm

I made my selection, went into a Parisian flea market, and headed home.

5:00 pm

At home, I made myself a matcha latte 🍵. I am working on a matcha recipe that includes ashwaganda but I am not at “this is delicious” yet. Still, it was a matcha latte and I loved every sip.

I had the matcha with one of the jam pastries I got at the bakery and had a pleasant time. I broke in a new matcha set and that alone (the whisking especially) was calming. I love calm and cozy days

Later that evening, I went and spent sometime with my two nieces. I had planned to take them to one of my favorite parks to feed geese but I was conscious of the time and we’d arrive at the part too late, so I ended up taking them to the movies. That was not so cozy and calm 😅. But I am working on this. The blog post I have been working on is about this. The “off the mat”, “off the meditation cushion”, outside of curated cozy solo afternoons, when chindren, who you loveee, and other people and circumstances are influencing your mood. I want to work on bringing calm, harmony, peace with me wherever I go. The book I am rereading, The Tao of Inner Peace, has good lessons about avoiding panic. I’ll share insights from this reread in my first newsletter at the end of the month.

As always, thanks for being here.🌸💖.

Be well, be love.
